Quick answer

Use a case to carry the Mini and its power parts; take it out to run it. The Mini is already rated Starlink Mini is rated IP67 Type 4 with the DC power cable and Starlink Plug/cable installed. A cover or closed case while running traps heat and degrades the signal.

What to look for in a case

  • Fit: the Mini measures Starlink Mini measures 298.5 x 259 x 38.5 mm (11.75 x 10.2 x 1.45 in). Kit with kickstand and cable: 3.37 lb.
  • A separate pocket for power parts: cable, power supply, USB-C cable, inline meter, fuse.
  • Padding on the face: the flat face is the antenna.
  • Starlink’s own option: The Mini Travel Kit includes a bumper case, a sleeve that doubles as a carrying case, and an accessory pouch for the power components.

Heat: why not to run it in a case

Starlink’s advice

Starlink strongly recommends against adding protective covers, which degrade performance and snow melting.

The Mini’s operating limit is 122 °F. A closed case in the sun climbs past that quickly. If yours throttles or shuts down, start with the overheating fixes.

When this is the wrong choice

  • A “weatherproof running case” is the wrong buy: the Mini is already weather-rated, and the case adds heat.
  • A hard case is overkill if it travels in a soft bag inside a car: a padded sleeve does the job.

Questions people ask

Is the Starlink Mini waterproof?

It’s rated IP67 with Starlink’s DC power cable and plug installed, which means dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion. With a standard Ethernet cable it no longer carries that rating.

Can I run the Mini inside a case?

Don’t run it inside a closed case or under a cover. Starlink strongly recommends against covers, and a closed case traps heat, which can throttle or shut the Mini down.

What case does Starlink sell?

The Mini Travel Kit: a bumper case, a sleeve that doubles as a carrying case, and an accessory pouch for the power parts.
