Most battery problems are one of five: a power bank that can’t do 100 W USB-C PD, voltage drop on 12 V wiring, inverter losses, too little winter sun, or heat. Match your symptom below.
Power bank won’t run it, or it keeps rebooting on USB-C
- You see
- Mini doesn’t start, or restarts under load, on a power bank.
- Usual cause
- The bank can’t hold 20 V at 5 A from one port, or the cable isn’t Starlink’s USB-C to barrel cable.
Restarts or won’t start on 12 V
- You see
- Fine at the battery, fails at the end of a long cable; worse under load or as the battery drains.
- Usual cause
- Voltage drop on a long or thin cable, or a weak socket.
Battery runs out much sooner than the label suggests
- You see
- Runtime well under the calculator’s estimate on AC.
- Usual cause
- Inverter and power-supply losses, plus inverter idle draw.
Solar kept up in summer, runs flat in winter
- You see
- Battery ends each day lower, from October on.
- Usual cause
- Fewer sun hours, snow on panels, snow melt on the dish, and cold batteries.
Slows down or shuts off in the heat
- You see
- Thermal throttling or shutdown alerts; recovers after cooling.
- Usual cause
- A closed case or cover, a hot dashboard or roof, a hot power supply.
Still stuck?
- Measure: an inline meter at the Mini tells you whether it gets enough watts. Boot and snow melt approach the 60 W Official spec: From a Starlink specification sheet or help article. Checked Oct 5, 2026 rating.
- Test with the wall power supply. If it works there, the problem is your battery path, not the dish.
- Plan with margin: our runtime numbers assume 85% of a station’s label is usable.
