What changed

On September 24, 2026, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of about 21,380 NEWDERY power banks, model ZHX-PB22. The recall number is 26-792. The power banks are black with yellow cables, with the NEWDERY name engraved on the front and the model number printed on the back.

The CPSC notice states the hazard plainly:

“The lithium-ion battery in the power banks can explode or ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.”

NEWDERY had nine reports of the power banks exploding or igniting, according to the notice. That includes one serious fire that caused $2 million in property damage and one reported burn injury. The power banks were sold on Amazon.com from October 2023 to November 2024 for about $27 to $50.

Who it affects

Anyone who bought a NEWDERY ZHX-PB22 power bank. Check the back of the unit for the model number. Other NEWDERY models are not named in this recall, and the notice does not list capacity or output wattage for the recalled model, so we can’t say whether it was ever able to run a Starlink Mini.

If you don’t own a NEWDERY power bank, this recall doesn’t affect you. It is still a useful reminder to look at every lithium pack in your kit bag, not just the one that runs the dish.

What it means for your power setup

Many Mini owners carry two kinds of battery: a large USB-C PD pack or a power station for the dish, and a smaller phone bank. Starlink’s spec sheet says the Mini needs a USB PD source of at least 100 W at 20 V and 5 A to run over USB-C, and Starlink says it will not work on sources rated 65 W or lower. Those figures render from our data file at the end of this post. A recalled phone bank in the same bag as a Mini kit is still a fire risk in a car, tent or van, even if it never powers the dish.

Nothing about the Mini’s own power draw changes. Our runtime numbers on the calculator and the battery size advice on the best battery for a Mini are the same as before.

What to do

  1. Check the back of any NEWDERY power bank for the model number ZHX-PB22.
  2. If it matches, stop using it, per the CPSC notice.
  3. Contact NEWDERY for the refund. The CPSC notice says the process asks you to photograph the model and serial numbers, write “recalled” and your last name on the unit in permanent marker, and confirm you disposed of it properly. NEWDERY’s contact details: 888-256-6673 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday), support@newdery.com, or newdery.com/pages/newdery-power-bank-recalls.
  4. Don’t put a recalled lithium battery in household trash or curbside recycling. Ask your local household hazardous waste site whether it takes lithium batteries.

What stays the same

  • Starlink’s power requirements for the Mini: unchanged on the spec sheet we checked.
  • Our USB-C power bank guide and its 100 W rule: unchanged.
  • No battery on our bench list is a NEWDERY product, so no bench row changes.

What we don’t know yet

  • The capacity and USB-C output rating of the ZHX-PB22. The CPSC notice doesn’t give them.
  • Whether any NEWDERY units were sold outside Amazon. The notice names only Amazon.com.
  • How many of the 21,380 units have been returned so far. Recall completion figures are not published in the notice.
